- Pond De-Icers and Heaters

Manufacturer:   LAGUNA
Safe for plastic and liner ponds, will not harm fish. The tough exterior houses four thermo-sensors that sense water temperature from different locations within the unit. This smart technology allows for accurate thermostatic control even in freezing conditions, 20 degrees Fahrenheit and below. The Laguna Power Heat effectively prevents pond surfaces from freezing completely to allow crucial gas exchange. Safe for plastic and liner ponds and features a highly-visible LED light that indicates proper function of the unit. 22 ft electrical cord with grounded plug. 7-1/2" dia x 5" high. Warning: Extreme caution should be taken when working near frozen ponds. Never walk on thin ice. Your safety should always be of the highest priority.
  • The de-icer should be positioned over the deepest part of the pond.
  • Place the unit in the pond. Once the unit is in the pond, plug the cord in the electrical socket. If the pond surface is already frozen, proceed with the following:
    • Fill a pot of suitable size with boiling water. Attach a cord or string to it and place it on the frozen surface. The hot pot will eventually melt a hole through the ice surface. Once a suitably large hole is created, install the unit. Never break or chop at the ice as the shock waves can unnecessarily stress pond fish.

The primary function of a de-icer is to maintain a small opening at the surface of the pond to allow efficient gas exchange.

Cleaning Instructions
After use, begin by unplugging the de-icer. Remove from pond and clean the unit thoroughly using a bio-degradable detergent in conjunction with a scrubbing pad. Rinse well and dry completely before storing.

General Information
This Laguna winterizing product will keep an area thawed and open in the pond, allowing the release of toxic gases from fish respiration and decomposing organic matter to escape which is essential for fish survival. At the same time it allows oxygen to re-enter the pond.

Works great - but for many backyard ponds, the powerheat pond de-icer may be an overkill. If you are in a super cold area, it may be the only one on the market that works.,
