Unlike other mechanical water timers, this one gradual shuts down after the chosen amount of time to water. Thus it eliminates the sudden water pipe shock and rattle.To my knowledge this is the only one of this type and it works great. I would suggest a person buy more than one because the plastic fittings will crack over time. I wish that Melnor would use metal for the hose connectionsWayne Lacina, Sun Jul 18, 2010
